Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the molasses and egg, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool before icing or decorating as desired.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can include a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Make sure to roll the dough to an even thickness for uniform baking.
