Butter Chicken Recipe (Murgh Makhani)

  • 1 pound boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in yogurt, ginger garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric powder, and chili powder for at least 1 hour.
  2. Cook the marinated chicken in a skillet over medium heat until browned, then set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the tomato puree, cooking for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the cream, sugar, and salt, then return the chicken to the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with rice or naan.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, increase the chili powder to taste.
  • Allow the dish to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
