Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sugar, water, and salt; stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, and cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  5. Quickly pour the toffee onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  7. Top with chopped nuts and allow to cool completely.
