  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the chilled dough and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  8. Place cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges begin to firm up.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For added decoration, consider using royal icing or candy.
